Question (11/2/2012) : What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can't deal with bad editing?

I have a tendency to give up on books if they have a slow start. I don't particularly care for love triangles anymore, since they're so over-done, but it won't stop me from reading a book if I like the story. Also, I vaguely remember reading something (can't remember if it was a book or an article for school) that was littered with quotation marks - and not the kind you use when you actually quote someone, and not in the sense of dialogue. That drove me up a wall and I couldn't finish it...whatever "it" was. See? Imagine "that", but having "that" done "several" times a paragraph, "sometimes" even more than once per sentence. "Annoyed" yet?

I would appreciate a follow, IF you think my blog covering books and other ideas for Babies to Young Adults will appeal to you and/or help you in some way. I DO NOT want you to follow me just because you feel like you have to because I'm participating in the Hop, as I cannot promise the same to you. For instance, if your blogging specialty is erotic novels or adult books, I have nothing against you or your site, it's just not my cup of tea.

Have a great weekend!

Question (10/19/2012) : When you step out of your USUAL genre what do you like to read? Best books in that genre?

This is actually a very difficult question for me, because I feel like anything I would read does fall into my "USUAL" genre. These genres would be YA Dystopian and YA Realistic Fiction. I'm not really a genre snob, so long as it is a chapter book or YA novel. I guess this means that my most unusual choice of books would be adult books, all of which would still be in the category of Realistic Fiction. Adult books I actually remember liking?

Question (10/5/2012) : What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? Is it to one day become an author yourself, just for fun, maybe get some online attention, or maybe something very different?

Well, if you want to know why I initially started this blog, you can just go to my About page. I have also enjoyed the attention (hoping I'm helping at least a couple people out along the way), and would like to write a children's book some day. *sigh* Blogging has also been a great way for me to write down ideas for programs/storytimes that have been successful for me to refer to if I'm ever in a pinch - same for readers advisory.

Question (9/28/2012) : What is the BIGGEST word you've seen used in a book lately - that made you stop and look it up? Might as well leave the definition and the book too.

This one is easy! Because I so recently complained about the vocabulary in a review. Sorry, Jay Clark, Jay Baker just didn't talk like a normal teen. Somnambulant? While Google Chrome is trying to tell me it's not even a word, according to Webster,  it means:

  1. Walking or having the habit of walking while asleep
  2. Resembling or having the characteristics of a sleepwalker
Seriously? Just say something about sleepwalking and be done with it!

Question (9/14/2012) : What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

Sorry, Stephenie Meter, but I don't think you did justice to the end of your series. I'm pretty sure I went to Barnes & Noble for the release party - lines wrapping all around the store, crazy people in crazy costumes...I stayed up all night trying to make it through the book and sadly failed. Once finished the book a couple days later, I remember thinking I just spent all that time reading a 700 page book (or something like that), and half of it was just listening to the good guys and bad guys talk about whether or not they wanted to fight, all to end up in a fight that lasted like...5 pages. Maybe not literally, but that's how it felt in comparison.

Question (8/31/2012) : What is the best cover of a book that you've read and loved?

My immediate reaction was going to be Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, but I didn't want to do two posts about that book so close to each other, so I chose differently - The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I don't like the cover as much as MPHPC, but I did like the story better. In fact, it's the best book I've read in a while (and is I think the only book that has ever influenced my dreams), which really reminds me I should write a review on it so I can encourage everyone else to read it too!

Question (8/31/2012) : What is the one book or series you are dying to see turned into a movie or a TV Series?

I promise I didn't even know what this question was when I answered the previous question, but my answer is actually the same. The Forest of Hands and Teeth all the way! Honestly, the only reason I picked up the book to begin with was because of the AMAZING book trailer we were shown at this year's FLYP Summer Reading Program workshop. I was told RandomBooks made the trailer using just teens in their library system.

Follow Friday / Book Blogger Hop

You may be wondering, why is a Blogger who has been on almost a year-long hiatus participating in a Blog Hop? My answer? Because I've come up with a plan of action that will hopefully get me back on track. Here it is:
  • No posts on weekends. (I've learned from many past endeavors that I need to give myself some break time or I'll burn myself out.)
  • Original posts such as reviews, program ideas, etc. every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Meme's on Tuesdays (MizB's Teaser Tuesdays) and Fridays (Alison's Follow Friday and Jennifer's Book Blogger Hop). The exception to this will be if I'm stuck on the same book two Tuesdays in a row, in which case I'll do an original post instead of a teaser. (Ideally this will make me feel less like I'm working and more like I'm able to have fun while still voicing my opinions on various issues or recommending books.)
  • Writing posts and scheduling them for later dates is OK! (In fact, I already have posts scheduled through the first two weeks of September, so please do come back.)
  • Keep this mindset (only apply it to blogging instead of working out):

Alright readers (if I have any of you left), now it's time for me to ask YOU for a favor : keep me accountable! Ask questions. Share your opinions. And it wouldn't hurt my confidence if you decided to follow me, either. ;)

On to the Blog Hops!

Question (8/24/2012) : What is the worst cover of a book that you've read and loved?

I loved all of Ellen Hopkins's YA books (including Fallout & Perfect - not pictured here), but, while they've basically become Ellen's "trademark" look, there's really nothing special to me about the covers. I guess publishers realized that using a model made-up to look like she was on drugs or being abused on the covers would not be warmly welcomed by parents of teens.

Question (8/24/2012) : What is your favorite thing about blogging?

I have always loved to write. Blogging gives me the ability to "write" about whatever I want, which is a nice break from having to write what I'm told to in school. Plus, it's always nice to feel like someone CARES about what I have to say.

Follow Friday - 1/28/11

It's time again for Parajunkee's Friday Follow! (Because it's Friday, so, obviously...)

This week's question is:

What is/was your favorite subject in school?

Well, at least this week I'm not afraid of losing followers... (see last week's post, if you're confused)
I think the last time I had a "favorite subject" was pre-high school. It was definitely history. I was homeschooled so I basically got to pick what I read/studied about, so I was pretty much obsessed with the Titanic and Ancient Egypt. I think I read every book (historical fiction and non-fiction) my library had on those subjects. I even made websites about what I learned about both of them.
I've been running aroud between work and I'm about to go take my boyfriend to his first ever fair (how can you not go to a fair in 25 years?), so I was a bit short on blog-time today, but I still managed to find two really neat blogs to follow:

Savannah at Books With Bite - I have no problem admitting that I'm a big fan of the Twilight books (especially working in the children's/teen department of a library), but I will admit, I've been getting tired of seeing practically nothing but vampire-lit published for teens. However, I found I really like the books Savannah reviews, plus I like her layout and think her vampire fang rating system is pretty awesome.

The Crazy Bookworm - I like so much, I think I'll just start from the top and work my way down...I like the header of her layout and the fact that she was able to find a "bookworm" who looks sexy, but not slutty. I like the font in the headers she uses for her posts. I like the features on her blog (like her Interview with a Blogger). I like the cute bookworms she uses for her rating system, and I like the books she reviews. Like. Like. Like!

Follow Friday - 1/21/11

[I'm pretty sure] This is my first time ever participating in Parajunkee's Friday Follow. I figured, what better way to spend the kickoff of Bloggiesta! than by letting others know that I'm back in business!

Apparently each week's follow comes with a question to encourage...I guess conversation?
This week's question is:

Who do you cheer for?

I guess I'll answer this question honestly, even though it will probably lose me a few old followers or put off potential new ones -closes eyes and holds breath- ... the Patriots. There, I said it. Against my boyfriend's (and about 98% of my other friends) wishes, I am, and have been for a while, a Patriot's fan. I think it happened during the 2004 Superbowl, when I SO greatly enjoyed dying my hair red white and blue in support of the team that I just decided they would be my favorite. During the next year I actually watched their games throughout the year and was just so impressed at how Randy Moss seemed to catch anything and everything that Tom Brady threw at him. Even though I was very upset that they got rid of Moss, I guess I'm still a fan. And contrary to practically everyone's opinion who hasn't known me since 2004, NO, it isn't because I think Tom Brady is hot (I'm pretty against guys having long hair as far as finding them attractive).

Want to know what other fantastic blogs I've found to follow this week (as a result of Friday Follow, of course)?:

Laura Ashlee at Ramblings of a (Future) Librarian - I'm just kind of in love with everything. The books she chooses, her layout is cute, I LOVE the owl that she uses in the layout and as a rating system, and hello? "future librarian"? So...me! I just wish I had an award lying around to give her!

Book Couture - I love how she's gun-ho on her first Bloggiesta! - She's an inspiration for me! I'm also digging her choices of books to review (YA) and the fact that she's okay with making posts of questions to her audience, rather than acting like she knows it all.

Jordyn & Yani at The Secret Life of an Avid Reader - I can'r believe I'm only their 12th follower! Maybe there's just something in the air about owls today...(go to their blog, you'll see what I mean) I love their headers and, again, yay for YA books! Plus, they're currently having a giveaway for Lauren Oliver's new release, Delirium. I've never heard of this particular YA book before (apparently that means I live under a rock) but it sounds awesome.
